El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

There are a couple of reasons why El Nido in Palawan, Philippines, is a great option for a budget-friendly romantic destination.
One is that it has beautiful beaches and lagoons, as well as spots for snorkelling and diving. Most prominently, it features unique stone karsts hovering over clear green water. In fact, Travel and Leisure magazine has repeatedly called Palawan the “The Most Beautiful Island in the World.” Second, there’s a lot of couple activities that you can do, from dining on restaurants overlooking the water and staying on nice resorts to engaging in sports such as kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding. Third, due to currency exchange and depending on how you plan your trip, traveling here can be cheap. My boyfriend and I went here for a special occasion and spent only P7000 each ($140) for 5 days. It’s one of the most memorable travels we’ve had.

Singapore is a great destination for an affordable trip for couples that enjoy large cities. One of the most romantic and free things to do in Singapore is to visit the beautiful and large Singapore Botanic Gardens which are also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For a romantic and free night out, watch the magical and Supertree Grove light and sound show at the Gardens by the Bay then take a walk on the waterfront promenade to enjoy the beautiful Singapore skyline views and warm weather. Although Singapore has a reputation as an expensive city, it’s easy to visit Singapore on a budget by focusing mainly on free or cheap attractions, eating at inexpensive hawker centers (a meal is typically less than $6 SGD a person) and using the efficient metro system (less than $2 SGD per ride). The only major expense would be accommodation but with so many options finding an affordable place to stay is not difficult.

When you think of romance and the Maldives, you may immediately think of blue water, white sand, and overwater villas. These accommodations can be incredibly expensive – upwards of $400 per person for transfers (float plane or speedboat) plus $1000+ a night for the room, and then add on western prices for meals and activities.
But a person can stay on a local island in small guesthouses. Sure, they guesthouse itself might not the most romantic place on earth but it is possible to get a boat to your own private island for a day for relaxation, sun, and incredible snorkeling. Your guesthouse might also be able to organize your own candlelight beach BBQ. Some of the islands that have local guesthouses include Maafushi, Dharavandhoo, and Omadhoo. Short flights on the local airlines, or ride by public ferry or fast boat makes transfers much more affordable than the private resorts. A couple should be able to travel like this for a daily cost around $100 per person for all meals and activities included.
Best Place to Stay
Crystal Sands Beach Hotel is a 4-star hotel in Maafushi by the beachfront with rates starting at USD 76 per night for a standard room. It includes free wifi, free breakfast and discounts for their spa services. Another great option is the Velana Blu, an upscale guesthouse, also in Maafushi. You can have free wifi and free breakfast for USD 73 in a Deluxe room.

Vanuatu is a romantic location for a number of reasons; it has tropical surroundings, fantastic accommodation and best of all, it has views that will melt your heart!
Situated about 3 hours from the east coast of Australia, Vanuatu is an island oasis with prices that are easily accessible. Accommodation is cheap, food is cheap, shopping is cheap, and one of the best parts of this place is that there are a number of free activities too!
Most hotels on this quiet island are oceanfront bures, making this country the perfect place to go on a romantic escape! Indulge in couples massages, beautiful day trips, romantic dinners, or simply lay on the beach – Vanuatu is the best place to be with your significant other!
Even for someone that likes to indulge in luxury, it would be very hard to spend more than 1 – 3k on all in-land costs here.
Basically, who could say no to beaches, waterfalls and sea life galore? There’s nothing quite like laying on a picturesque beach with a cocktail or 2 in hand. Vanuatu truly is romance at its finest!
