Flying can easily be one of the most stressful forms of travel. Now, bring in toddler fussiness and meltdowns into the mix, you just might opt for a staycation. Don’t let that deter you from exploring the world with your children. Here are some strategies you can do to survive and enjoy a flight with your toddler.
Schedule around nap time
Depending on how long your flight will be and if your little one still takes naps, you might want to plan booking a flight around his nap time. This way, you can just tuck them in the rest of the flight.
For longer flights, you might want to bring some comfortable sleeping gear for the kids.
Bring Flexible Toys
Toys are a no-brainer essential when traveling with kids. Still you don’t want to be packing too much with you. Instead, choose toys that can entertain your child in more ways than just one. Toys that offer a variety and flexibility in play can sustain your child’s attention longer. An example would be a coloring book or travel games packed in a travel activity bag.
Plan to not give them all the toys at once too. Pace and reserve some new toys in the middle of travel to keep them occupied longer.
Pack Snacks
That Snickers ad rings true, you know. A hangry kid is the last thing you want to stress about.
Snacks are great and delicious distractions. If you have a picky eater who would refuse to eat what the airline offers, having your own snacks that’s familiar or even a favorite may just save the day.
Stretch those legs
Toddlers are highly energetic. They would need a way to express those energy. Otherwise, you’d have a restless kid.
Walking around the aisles is a great way to stretch those muscles and get a break from sitting on your butt for too long. It is good for your health anyway. It promotes blood circulation and prevents clots from forming.
Technology is your friend
These electronic gadgets keep everyone sane when waiting for that connecting flight or while on a long flight with your toddler. Just check on them often. Make sure you’re still interacting with your kids. Try to play the games or watch movies with them.
